Limit Construction Hours for Lewisham Gateway Phase Two

We the undersigned petition the council to Reduce the construction hours of the Lewisham Gateway Phase Two site to the following: Monday to Friday: 8am to 6pm.

Time and time again has Balfour Beatty has tried to ensure us that they are trying to "minimise the impact on the community" regarding the noise levels, however, they consistently infringed on their own requirements.

Balfour Beatty has recently been approved an extension to their construction hours to the following:

•Monday to Friday: 8am to 9pm (quiet works 6pm-9pm)
• Saturday: 8am-9pm (quiet works 1pm-9pm)

These construction hours would remain in place until 30th September 2021. This effectively means that the entire summer will be filled with construction noise.

Although their notice claims "quiet works", this is not the case. Throughout the week they regularly perform noisy construction after 6pm, sometimes until 9pm, blatantly against their own guidelines. The noise normally comes from one of the following:

• Concrete Pump
• Water Pressure Washer
• Manual Tools (i.e. hammering)

Within the notice that they provided that "the extension of their construction hours are to facilitate safe working conditions and allow for social distancing measures to be maintained", and that "the extended hours will allow us to stagger start and finish times which will reduce crowding on public transport as other industries return to the workplace".

However, their construction staff flagrantly break social distancing guidelines on a daily basis. None of their construction staff wear any masks, nor do they adhere to the 1m plus guidelines when checking in or out of the construction site in the morning and evening, or when performing any of their duties during the day.

To summarise, the local residents surrounding the Lewisham Gateway Phase Two site would not like the construction hours to be expanded beyond Monday to Friday: 8am to 6pm.
