Stop Building Works on Greystead Raod

We the undersigned petition the council to Stop the proposed works on Greystead Road.

These proposals are completely out of touch with the reality of our current estate and the wider implications to our community, the school, and the traffic on Honor Oak Road.

The intention is to build 40 new homes and seeks to address apparently 2450 homeless families in Lewisham. This is a serious issue, but it looks as though it might need more thought.

The developments in Greystead Road will continue the intensification of housing along Honor Oak Road which has occurred over the past few years. It will also serve to further crowd the residents of the flats in Greystead Road so I cannot see that anyone much is going to benefit.

There have been three developments in recent years along Honor Oak Road - the flats, off Canonbie, above Fairlawn School, the flats off Tyson Road, and the new houses opposite the school. The Greystead Road buildings will be the fourth, there are two more in progress one at the bottom of Cannonbie and another running up the hill from Honor Oak Road to behind Liphook Crescent.

A further proposal is for 40 new homes behind Havelock House.

That will make 7 new developments along Honor Oak Road which seems a bit intense to be putting further pressure on school places, local transport and so on.

Council response

Lewisham Homes, on behalf of Lewisham Council has been engaging with the Greystead Road community since early 2020 regarding the proposal to provide much needed new Council social rented homes on housing land. The current locations being explored are a garage site and an area of steep bank on the estate. In April 2020 the community were consulted on initial design ideas for 34 high quality homes for families including wheelchair accessible homes and improvements to the estate landscaping, with the introduction of a play area and new planting. Since that point the design team have been revising design proposals from the feedback received and further consultation with the community will take place in the autumn 2021 ahead of a planning submission to the Local Planning Authority.
