Police SNT update

Minutes:

PC Michael Hill provided the following written update:

At the last meeting, several points were raised, these being;

  • Speeding Vehicle on Sydenham Hill/Rise
  • A cash for cars vehicle left on Sydenham Hill
  • Fly tipping on Tyson Road

In response to this points;

  • I have personally spoken to members of the public regarding this having received several complaints directly to the teams inbox. In response to this I and my colleagues have conducted speed awareness days at these locations using our Unipar Laser speed detection device (speed gun).
  • The Cash For Cars vehicle was not found by my colleagues when on patrol in this area.
  • The council have been contacted regarding fly tipping. Whilst on patrol we haven't noticed any evidence of fly tipping in Tyson Road though if anyone is caught they will be dealt with as robustly as possible, so should this be witnessed we ask that registration numbers of offending vehicles and/or descriptions of driver to be taken and passed for my attention..

We still need as many residents of Forest Hill to sign up to our community contacts list.

We have also executed a couple of drugs warrants on the cluster, resulting  in several arrests and the seizure of large quantities of mature Cannabis plants and hydroponics equipment.

Several officers from Forest Hill and Perry Vale were conducting reassurance patrols on Sydenham Hill Estate and discovered a Cannabis Factory. The tenant was arrested and again several mature Cannabis plants and a Hydroponics system seized.

 As we are now on the lead up to Christmas and over this period we see a rise in Burglary related offences. The Metropolitan Police Service has launched Operation Bumblebee to identify and arrest burglars and provide reassurance and crime prevention advice to residents. Lewisham, ergo Forest Hill SNT will have visited all our known offenders as well as conduct Op Bumblebee Crime Prevention road shows within the ward. Several of these will have already been conducted by the time you hold the LA Meeting.

Finally, it goes without saying that should anyone need to report crime, then dial 999 for emergencies or 101 to report other matters requiring police attendance.

If contacting the Safer Neighbourhood Team, please speak clearly and leave full contact details including a phone number or e-mail address in order for us to respond.

Other than this, all meetings we will be holding such as drop in surgeries etc are detailed on our website: http://content.met.police.uk/Team/Lewisham/ForestHill

Young Citizen’s Programme (YCP)

Forest Hill School has launched a new social action Initiative – the Young Citizen’s Programme – which aims to encourage young people to become more active citizen’s, devising projects, campaigns that address local needs.  Throughout the autumn term 240 Year 9 students (13-14 year olds) have been working with specialist Facilitators, researching local priorities and coming up with innovative ideas for projects.  In January, each class will present a pitch of their class idea, from which a winning project will be selected for delivery direct in the community during the Spring and/or Summer terms.

Local councillors from Perry Vale, Sydenham and Forest Hill wards recently attended a special assembly to talk about the priorities in their wards, and Young Advisers from Lewisham Young Mayor’s Office will also help with delivery of the final project.

The YCP not only develops students skills (e.g. research, entrepreneurism, communication/presentation, creative thinking, problem solving, project management) and sense of philanthropy, but it also promotes  ...  view the full minutes text for item 32.
