  10 trees to be planted for the year.

·           Trees create cleaner air and greener streets for all of Brockley’s

        current and future residents.

               ·      Cleaning the air helps those with respiratory problems, children

                       with asthma, and helps to prevent premature death.

               ·      Greener environments cultivate a greater sense of wellbeing for

                       all.

                ·      Trees add beauty and grace to the urban environment.

               ·      Guardian families learn about trees and become involved with a

                       wider community.

               ·      Planting trees builds resilience against Climate Change for all.

·         Brockley Max

              The Brockley Max Opening Night is an outdoor event which took place in

              Foxberry Road, near Brockley station on 1 June 2018.  It constituted 6

              plus hours of music and performance, showcasing over 12 local diverse

                      bands, performers and choirs of all ages, both amateur and professional.  The Opening Night, like the vast majority of the festival, is free and all are welcome.

·         Deptford in the Pink: Development of Brookmill

                Friends of Brookmill Park formed in 2014 following redundancy of the Park Keeper. Since then we have organised summer community picnics, river clean-ups, litter-picking, bird and bat walks and alerted Glendale to anti-social behaviour and malicious damage. Redstart Arts, resident in the Park, has renovated the park-keeper’s hut, holds weekly sessions for artists with learning disabilities, designs and distributes Park information, organises exhibitions.

The Planting Group with the assembly funding is working to improve the appearance and biodiversity of flowerbeds through phased works.

·         Breakspears Mews community Garden

            Senior gardening club – we have run an 8 week gardening club for

            senior persons in the ward.

            Gardening for Schools – we have devised a program, which is being

            sent out to local schools.

            We have collaborated with the Brockley Cross Action Group and have

            taken responsibility for the Herb garden and flower Meadow by Brockley Station.

            Open Days – one in April with AGM and Summer Open Day due in July,

            Shared meals with regular volunteers. Also planning meetings and informative skill sharing.

Due to deliver:

·         Seeds, plants, compost and replacement of worn out garden tools and a

new strimmer – we buy these to support the gardening club and to be able to open the garden to local residents.

·         Outings – to visit Private garden in Lee, Brixton Pop Up with Gapital Growth, Kent House Allotments Beckenham, Hall Gardens Bexley, Brogdale Apple Festival, Shannon Leigh Stables (for manure)

·         FLOWER POWER- ArtHouse

            ‘Flower Power’, a series of free, drop in workshops, generously funded by

            the Brockley Assembly, celebrated traditional art skills that connect us to the outdoors, encouraging us to appreciate nature and care for city green spaces.

            Local residents made clay tiles for the Rokeby Road planter in the first workshop, which attracted participants of all ages. London's streets and neighbourhoods are changing fast. Our city is promoting healthy streets & neighbourhoods and the Mayor of

London's target is 80% of journeys in London will be either pedestrian, cycling or public transport.

We are local residents and businesses who would like to help shape these developments in our neighbourhood. We are finding out what people's priorities are and what possible solutions could look like for Brockley.

            The Brockley Society supports the Brockley Better Streets initiative to help create positive change for the benefit of all residents and visitors to Brockley:

            Increase road safety for everybody inside and around the Brockley Conservation Area.

                       Give priority to cyclists, pedestrians and public transport.

                       Reduce pollution from traffic going through the area.

            Emphasize the residential nature of Brockley and prevent the use of our streets as rat-runs by non-local traffic.

The 2018/19 Brockley fund will focus on one or more of the following priorities:

1. Creating a high-quality living environment - looking for proposals that will help improve our local living environment and make Brockley a safer, cleaner and greener place to live, work and learn. We also want proposals that seek to create development opportunities for Brockley residents

2. Connecting Communities– looking for proposals that bring Brockley residents together, foster a sense of community spirit, mutual understanding and respect, through community projects, events and activities. These could include those that are Art, Music, Drama and Sports based. We are also keen to open up the criteria to include ideas around exciting intergenerational projects.

How much is available? 

There is £15,000 available for the Brockley ward in 2018-19. You can apply for a maximum of £2,500 for each individual project.

What can it be spent on?

The priorities highlighted have been identified by residents, community groups and local businesses who have attended the Brockley Meetings. We want to fund projects that aim to tackle these important issues raised by the local community. The money could be used to start up a project, support a group to develop new activities, or support a larger project that has secured funding from other sources.

Closing date for all proposal forms is 5pm on Monday 10 September 2018

The assessment of all bids received will take place at the Brockley Coordinating meeting to be held IN September date tbc.

Following this, the results will be announced at the next assembly on Tuesday 6^th November 2018.

Air Pollution: the largest environmental risk to public health

Lewisham’s Air Quality Action Plan 2016-2021

Areas of Focus:

-       Controlling emissions from developments and buildings (including construction);

-       Public health and raising public awareness on air quality

-       Reducing emissions from delivery servicing and freight (including Councils procurement);

-       Reducing our own Borough fleet vehicle emissions

-       Actions that encourage and enable transport modal shifts away from conventional car use (with the necessary infrastructure).

What can we all do?

-       Sign up to the Mayor’s Air Quality Pledge

-       Walk or cycle instead of taking the car. Cycling or walking benefits your health and helps to improve air quality in London

-       Use public transport instead of driving to reduce your air pollution emissions

-       Talk to your friends and family about air quality. Encourage them to take action against air pollution too

-       Explore alternatives to owning a diesel car e.g. becoming a member of a car clubs, trading in your car for a petrol vehicle, or buying a vehicle run on hydrogen or electricity

-       IMPROVED AIR QUALITY REQUIRES US ALL TO MAKE RIGHT CHOICES

·         Entelechy Arts update-

Sarah Jarman works for a charity called Entelechy Arts. They do a lot of work with isolated older people using the arts. They are currently delivering a few projects around the South of the borough including a project at the Ackroyd centre.
