Information about Safer Stronger Communities Select Committee

The Safer Stronger Communities Select Committee monitors, reviews and makes recommendations about a wide range of local matters including; police and crime, equalities, community engagement and libraries. It gives local councillors the opportunity to question council officers and cabinet members and to influence the decisions made by the Mayor and Cabinet in relation to these matters. The Committee also enables councillors to hear from local residents, the Police and Fire Brigade, local community groups, and other interested parties.

The Committee chooses which community safety, equalities and community engagement issues it wishes to focus on each year and considers them over the course of its five formal meetings.

The agenda and reports for each meeting are published five full working days before each meeting.
