The Business Panel consists of the
chair and vice-chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the
chair of each of the select committees, and three councillors (or
the next highest number necessary to ensure that the panel’s
membership reflects the overall political composition of the
Council).
Its main functions are to:

handle all ‘call-ins’ of
executive decisions made but not yet implemented, except for those
call-ins which fall within the scope of the Education Business
Panel
·
coordinate and approve the work
programme of each select committee in order to prevent overlaps and
use resources as effectively as possible
·
decide which select committee should handle an issue where
more than one committee might deal with it according to their
remit.
