Welcome from the Chair

Minutes:

The start of the assembly consisted of a marketplace event to decide the £12,500 2014/15 Perry Vale Assembly Fund. Applicants were provided with a proposal number and a stall and there were 11 applications in total. Attendees were then asked to visit each stall and talk to each of the applicants before marking each project individually out of 10. Officers would then total the votes with the projects that receive the most votes up to the £12,500 available being funded. For details of the proposals contact paul.gale@lewisham.gov.uk

Cllr Susan Wise welcomed everyone to the assembly meeting and introduced Cllr John Paschoud and Cllr Alan Till. She then thanked Forest Hill School for agreeing to host the assembly meeting.

Update from the Police

Minutes:

PC Richard Bailey from the Perry Vale Safer Neighbourhood Team told

Assembly that Operation Bumblebee has started again and will run until February 2015, this is a London wide anti Burglary initiative as Christmas is traditionally a period when Burglary increases. Overall Burglary is down by 11% this year and there is lots of information at www.met.police.uk regarding keeping your home secure, much is of this is obvious, but people still need reminding.

The police are continuing to promote the email contact list as this is an excellent way of disseminating information, the police do not share. This data with any other parties and you will only be sent information which is relevant, such as ‘be on the lookout for’, witness appeals and scams etc.

Robberies are down, but people must keep an eye on their mobile Phones especially when leaving the Station as last year there were snatches and with Christmas approaching this could start again.

Cllr Wise – Once again on behalf of the assembly I would like to say how much we appreciate the hard work that you do and we really value

your attendance at these meetings.

Young Citizenship Programme

Minutes:

FHS has launched a new social action Initiative – the Young Citizen’s

Programme – This aims to encourage young people to become more active citizen’s by devising projects / campaigns that address local needs.

Throughout the autumn term 240 Year 9 students (13-14 year olds) have been working with specialist Facilitators, researching local priorities and coming up with innovative ideas for projects. In January, each class will present a pitch of their class idea, from which a winning project will be selected for delivery direct in the community during the Spring and / or Summer terms.  Local councillors from Perry Vale, Sydenham and Forest Hill wards recently attended a special assembly to talk about the priorities in their wards, and Young Advisers from Lewisham Young Mayor’s Office will also help with delivery of the final project. The YCP not only develops student’s skills (e.g. research entrepreneurism, communication / presentation, creative thinking problem solving, project management) and sense of philanthropy, but

also promotes social interaction and action, encouraging young people to work with their wider community (across the ages) for the benefit of all.

Christmas Market Event – Sasha also advised the assembly that on

Tuesday 16th December 2014 from 6pm-8.30pm there is the Forest Hill

School Christmas Market.  There will be music, dance and drama

performances, festive food and drink Christmas gifts, crafts stalls and

more. Entry is free and all are welcome.
