Big Welcome to Lewisham's Mayor, Damian Egan

Minutes:

   On 3 May 20818, the people of Lewisham elected Damien Egan to

   be their new Mayor.

   Damien stood on a bold and radical manifesto to change our 

   borough. Some of his priorities for the next four years include:

   improving our secondary schools while maintaining the standard of

   our primary schools and early years education; delivering 1,000 new

   social homes; developing a public health approach to youth violence;

   doubling the number of living wage employers in Lewisham; resisting

   any attempts to close Lewisham A&E or downgrade the hospital; and

   establishing a new greening fund to enhance our green spaces.

   The assembly allowed residents to ask the new Mayor questions.

Consultation: Introducing licensing for all private rented homes in the borough, Presentation by Sean Longley

Minutes:

Sean Longley delivered the presentation; ‘The Private Rented Sector – licensing’

Their aims are the following:

·         We enforce standards in private rented sector housing

·         We deal with complaints from landlords, tenants and external agencies

·         We support tenants and landlords

·         Our rogue landlord team works to:

ü  prevent illegal evictions

ü  address landlord harassment

 

They also advised pf the Public consultation:

·         Get involved and have your say on https://www.lewisham.gov. uk/renting or search for the Lewisham Council Consultation Hub

·         The public consultation opened on 28th May 2019 and will close on 20th August 2019

 

Continue to report issues regarding:

·         Potential HMOs (existing or in process of conversion)

·         Disrepair in private rented property

·         Rogue landlords

·         Empty homes

Friendly Festival - Jaime Mills

Minutes:

Exciting times for Brockley !

On Sunday 21st July 2019, a Community Arts Festival will be based in Friendly Park

 

Activities on the day include face painting, craft activities, storytelling and football

From 3-8pm, there will be the Family Soul Train plus a South American Friendly Fiesta

And Cool Caribbean Celebration, supplied by Honey Pot.

 

The main aims of the festival are:

1. To raise money for each School involved

2. To raise money for Friends of Friendly Gardens

3. To create an art piece for Friendly Park by the School

Community.

4. To build lasting creative and productive relationships in

the local area.

 

Our motto “if you want a community you have to build one”

We are a group of local mothers with school age children scattered through the local

school community. Our social networks are large and interconnected.

We want to raise money for local organisations that serve the community well

through community showcase events.
