Bakerloo Line Extension Consultation pdf icon PDF 64 KB

Minutes:

The Policy and Development Manager introduced the report. Councillor Walsh said at the Sustainable Development Select Committee it was emphasised that it was important the extension should go past Lewisham to Hayes with the option to extend to Bromley, and he was surprised that this information was not prominent in the report. The Policy and Development Manager stated that he would ensure this is highlighted at the beginning of the report.

Councillor John Paschoud said it would be good if the extension is continue from Lewisham to Bromley, although some Bromley residents were concerned that services to Hayes would be affected adversely, as there would be a reduction on the national railway services to make way for the tube services.

The Policy and Development Manager said this was true but the frequency of the tube would more than compensate for any reduction of national rail trains. He added they would also have direct trains to London central lines, and journey times would be reduced. The Chair asked for members to be sent a link to the review of work to be done, and it was confirmed that the final report would be subject to scrutiny.

Councillor Curran said that the location for a new depot would be crucial, and raised concerns about its effect on people living in Hayes. He also added that he did not think the location of Lower Sydenham station was adequate. Councillor Curran said the bridge by the junction of Southend Lane was too low and narrow and would need rebuilding or relocating. He said a significant refurbishment work would be necessary in future which TFL would need to consider.

The Chair said he was aware of these issues which would be discussed at a future Mayor and Cabinet meeting. The Chair commended officers for the report, and requested the final response to be presented to Council for information.

     RESOLVED that

i.              the report be endorsed as amended.

ii.            the final response be presented to Council for information.
